THE WORD - "MOTHER"
One semester when I was attending graduate school,
the professor announced to our class, "I want you to
stand in a circle and say the word 'Mother,' one at
a time." It seemed silly at the time and allowed us
an opportunity to moan and groan a little, but I
learned a great deal from that exercise.
My professor's goal was to point out how one word -
the same word - can be expressed several ways,
contingent upon our perception. What I discovered
that day was that our connotation associated with
the word "Mother" varies like the spring flowers.
Some said, "Mother" with an expression of love and
adoration, revealing fond memories and appreciation.
However, some voiced, "Mother" with obvious anger,
resentment, and frustration, revealing a rather
negative association.
As we can attest, not all relationships are perfect,
but thank goodness for all mothers. After all,
they're responsible for manufacturing every single
person on this planet. Pretty awesome
accomplishment, I'd say.
Mothers come in all shapes, shades, and sizes - each
with a unique personality style and flair! Some are
trendy. Some are conservative. Some moms are bosses
and wouldn't walk out the door without wearing a
suit, pantyhose, high heels, and carrying a
briefcase.
Other moms prefer jeans most days, and wouldn't walk
out the door without carrying an ample supple of
toys - eager to experience fun everywhere she goes!
Some moms are into sweats and sports, and carry
around athletic gear - on the lookout for physical
action! Other moms may be into sweats too, but
solely for the purpose of relaxing, watching TV,
reading a magazine, or lounging in a hammock. Others
prefer high fashion, glamour, opera, books, and
perhaps classical music.
Some moms are married, some are single. Some moms
are grandmoms; some are step-moms. Some gave birth,
some signed papers.
Each mom, nonetheless, is a very special mom who has
a very unique personality style - for a very special
child who has a unique personality style - and for a
very special reason. Make no mistake, each child has
been given a gift - and that special gift is a
"Mother."
Regardless of what the word "Mother" means to you,
take advantage of this time and let your mom - or a
mom you care about - know how much you appreciate
her. To the moms who have messed up royally - and to
the moms who deserve "Mother of the Year" awards -
we wouldn't be here without you.
So thanks - and Happy "Mother's" Day!

STRAWBERRY PIE
~ 1 qt. fresh strawberries - hulled
~ 1 container strawberry glaze (sugar free)
~ 1 sml. pkg. vanilla pudding (instant sugar free/fat
free)
~ 2 cups milk (skim)
~ 1 prepared graham cracker crust
~ Whipped topping
Mix pudding according to directions. Pour into graham
cracker crust. Let set in the refrigerator for 5-10
minutes. In the meantime, mix glaze and strawberries.
Spoon on top of pudding. Refrigerate 2- 3 hours. Add
whipped topping when serving.
This is my husband's very favorite dessert. (He's been
known to eat the entire pie by himself within hours.)
(Being 6'4" helps.) This dessert is low fat, low
sugar, easy and tasty.
I've also used miniature graham cracker crusts for
individual servings. Enjoy!
